Bangladesh BCS Preliminary Exam: Official Notice and Preparation Workflow
How to find the current BPSC circular on bpsc.gov.bd, verify cadre, age and fees, handle Teletalk payment and build a syllabus-driven study plan.
The Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary is the 200-mark screening that decides who reaches the written stage. Every detail that matters — cadre list, vacancy numbers, age cut-off, fees, photo specs, admit-card window and syllabus — is published as a PDF circular on bpsc.gov.bd. Coaching summaries are useful for topic study, but they cannot replace the circular for the cycle you apply to.
Finding the right circular and reading it correctly
On bpsc.gov.bd open Notices → BCS Examination and download the circular that matches the BCS number you target (e.g., 47th BCS). Save the PDF with its publication date visible in the filename (e.g., BPSC47thBCSCircular2025-11-27.pdf). Inside, verify cadre-wise qualifications: general education cadres, technical/professional cadres and both-cadre options have different degree and subject requirements. Note age as at the date stated in the circular (commonly 21-30 with the commission's extension where the gazette allows), fee amount and payment channel, and the correction window — all are cycle-specific.
General education, professional/technical and both-cadre choices affect which posts you can be considered for, and re-ranking after submission is rarely allowed — choose carefully and keep a copy.
Teletalk payment and account hygiene
Most cycles use Teletalk SMS payment in two steps: first SMS with BCS + User ID, second with PIN after you receive it. Keep the User ID, Transaction ID and applicant's copy printout together. Use a phone and email you control alone; the password and security question must remain retrievable until the viva and appointment stages. Upload photograph and signature exactly per spec (commonly 300×300 px, <100 KB, recent, white background) — an invalid image is a frequent screening failure.
Syllabus-driven preparation for 200 marks
Split the 200-mark preliminary syllabus into the sections actually listed: Bangla Language & Literature, English Language & Literature, Bangladesh Affairs, International Affairs, Geography (Bangladesh & World), General Science, Computer & ICT, Mathematical Reasoning, Mental Ability and Ethics/Values. Map each to one stable source (e.g., NCTB/board texts for Bangla grammar, BBS yearbook and constitution for Bangladesh Affairs) and keep a one-page error log. Practise with previous BPSC questions for format familiarity, not score prediction — preliminary cut-offs are cohort-dependent and the commission does not publish guarantees.
Time management matters: many candidates lose marks by spending too long on mathematics puzzles early. Practise full-length timed sets and learn when to mark and move.
Common mistakes that cost a cycle
Using an old circular or a reposted fee table from Facebook; uploading an invalid image size; assuming one cadre's qualification applies to every cadre; missing a corrigendum that changes a centre or date; treating "expected vacancies" on a coaching page as official.
After submission
Track the notice page for corrigenda and admit-card dates, and keep the applicant's copy and payment confirmation until appointment. If a detail is wrong, correct only via the channel the commission states — messaging a Facebook page does not constitute correction.

BPSC — Notices. Recheck the notice page before each deadline — forms, fees and dates change per cycle. This guide is educational.
